Roine m
Unknown. Theories have included connection with a dialectal term roine (“roar, thunder, noise”) (~ roikua?) and a comparison to Indo-European *kroyn-is (whence Proto-Germanic *hrainiz (“clean, pure”)).[1]
The surname and given name were inspired by depictions of the lake in popular literature in the 19th century, such as in poems by Zachris Topelius and Karl Collan.
