Etymology

Coined by Zosa Szajkowski, who believed it to be derived from Hebrew יְהוּדִית (y'hudít, Jewish ), although this has shown to be spurious. The word that he based it on was in fact from Old Occitan chuadit, a manuscript variant of chuadi in a poem written by a non-Jew, and is of unclear meaning.

Proper noun

Shuadit

  1. An extinct Hebrew-script variant of Provençal used by Jews in France, also called Judeo-Provençal or Judeo-Comtadine.
