First attested as ecclesia sti Philippi Apostoli, St. Philipskerc in 1490-1495. Compound of the name of Saint Philip the Apostle and land (“land”). Named after a church built by Anna of Burgundy (ca. 1435-1508), an illegitimate daughter of Philip of Burgundy; the church was dedicated to Saint Philip as a reference to its worldly benefactor.
