All three senses- there was an earlier rfv to sense 3 that did not lead anywhere. Very rare as a surname, I found 6 bearers through Ancestry.com, might be misspellings of Merton, etc. City in Europe?? Going on with the monologue: I'll remove all definitions except the surname. If we mean to include all surnames recorded for three families (without certainty of the language statement) we won't be short of words, but rfd is too much trouble.
