Talk:come out

I haven't time at present to follow up and add the sense and reference quoted in the following 'pedia quote, but I see the OED2+ has several cites of similar usage at around the same time, ie come out for = publicly support, which it suggests are precursors of come out as -- if anyone else has time, please do so.

From w:Helen Keller#Political activities:

At that time the compliments he paid me were so generous that I blush to remember them. But now that I have come out for socialism he reminds me and the public that I am blind and deaf and especially liable to error. I must have shrunk in intelligence during the years since I met him

It seems the sense regarding money is more along the lines of "to originate from" than "to be deducted from", see for example " I am sure that some of it translates into money, but most ACS revenue comes out of ACS Publications, so I don't really think it's dues money that drives this push." —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 00:18, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
