Should the Mandarin translation for "having the color of fire" be 火色 or 火红, or both? 71.66.97.228 07:03, 5 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Why did the form fiery develop from fire? --Backinstadiums (talk) 15:04, 30 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
- This is a matter of spelling. "Fire" was formerly also written "fier", and the two words then became standardized in different ways. You have such cases in most languages, though not as frequent as in English, because at some point these inconsistencies were removed by reform, whereas English almost always puts tradition over consistency. (Being a non-native speaker, for a long time I thought "fiery" was pronounced , perhaps because I associated it with "fierce".) 2.207.102.112 15:47, 16 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
