Shouldn't this be moved to halftone - that is the normal spelling. That is also the spelling on Wikipedia. SemperBlotto 12:31, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

When I entered it into OED2 it returned 'half-tone', so I went with that. I would have expected 'halftone' so I suppose that the OED2 is, perhaps, a little lagging. MW favours 'halftone' but google gets more hits for 'half-tone'. I'll move it ... and the derivations.
From my experience in printing, the noun was more commonly halftone, and the verb half-tone (probably because of the different spoken stress). In music, half-tone is somewhat more common. But by all means treat halftone as normative, and half-tone as an alternative spelling. (and put back the definitions with more wikilinks that Ncik deleted?)
