Probably Yahoo just changed one word in the OED definition "Esp. of an infant: to cry feebly, to whimper; to make a whining noise.". The OED claim the obvious onomatopoeia, via Middle French "miauleur" and "miaul" --> "meawl". Dbfirs 14:13, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
