Mind as ability

I wonder abour the following definition found in the article.

The ability to be aware of things.
There was no doubt in his mind that they would win.

I see mind as a kind of container; doubts, thoughts and similar can be in it. I do not see how an object such as doubt could be in someone's ability. Put differently, ability is not a container. But I am a non-native English speaker. --Daniel Polansky 16:55, 10 August 2007 (UTC)Reply
