Tea room convo about the adverb

Possible missing adjective sense

Chambers 1908 has a colloquial sense "considerable". I'm not sure what they are getting at: maybe "a precious lot of good that will do you", etc.? Hmmm. Equinox 09:57, 28 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

precious as retarded?

Sorry if, as a person having English as a second language only, I misunderstand things. Across my reading, I stumbled several times on cases where Precious, the adjective, seemed to mean retarded, or idiotic, or maybe autistic ("she's the most precious child" or something like that). maybe that meaning should be added, but I certainly won't claim to know enough to do so myself.
