is there a label other than vulgar or derogatory we could use for this? and on trap and similar pages. also, is htis a reference to putting a gag in someone's mouth so they cant talk? —Soap— 14:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
- @Soap "dysphemism" maybe? This, that and the other (talk) 21:39, 10 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
- Yeah, I really like that label. There's an ongoing discussion here in which I said it hasnt turned out to be as useful as I'd expected, but I still feel that dysphemism is a more appropriate label for an inanimate object, or for an inalienably possessed object, than offensive. I would go with vulgar but people seem to think of that as being for sexual terms only, and derogatory has acquired a meaning specific to use in Wiktionary. And offensive combines aspects of all of these others. So basically that just leaves dysphemism, and maybe it will turn out to be useful for inanimates after all. Thanks. —Soap— 04:57, 11 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
