I listed the definition as "a mental hospital" and I notice you added "that treats chronic diseases". I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the best definition maker on the planet, but it seems to me that "chronic diseases" doesn't really apply either. I mean, congestive heart failure is a chronic disease yet mental hospitals don't treat hardening of the arteries. Can you give this another try? Cheers --Stranger 15:59, 6 September 2005 (UTC)

Boy, I just don't know. Speed changed this per my request (see above). I know, historically, sanatoriums treated more than just mental illnesses. It was more a resting place for the wealthy. It certainly wasn't used for emergencies. But I really don't know about "chronic diseases" - I'm not that up on my history. I will leave this note and defer to someone with more knowledge. Semper changed the definition more along the lines of Speed's, so I bow to their combined wisdom. But I will say I think a sanatorium is often used to refer to simply a mental hospital in modern US parlance. --Stranger 15:14, 12 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
