Chambers 1908 gives "(Scotland) the fruit of the whitebeam" and "a North American shrub, the shadbush". I don't think our entry covers either. Equinox 03:26, 23 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

It originally referred to European trees in the genus Sorbus and was later applied to Amelanchier in North America (there's a European species of Amelanchier, Amelanchier ovalis, but I don't think it was historically referred to as serviceberry). There are a variety of other common names for Sorbus, so Amelanchier seems to have taken over the serviceberry name (at least in print). As for shadbush, that's a species of Amelanchier so our definition covered it. Chuck Entz (talk) 05:14, 28 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
