Usage

While searching through style manuals in libraries and online for notes on tidal wave vs. tsunami, I read that very early versions of "Fowler's Modern English Usage" (or "The King's English" as it might've been called then) called this word to task - I think based on applying the Romance prefix -al to the Germanic stem tide. But I haven't been able to find this info again so the details may be wrong. By the way, I didn't find any references at all to tsunami - I'm sure this will change in newer editions. — Hippietrail 00:48, 3 Feb 2005 (UTC)
