- Is it not only true in comparison to something with which it bears similarities? How about, "An object or thing which is distinct in comparison, although being in some way similar." The new laser beam was found to be distinct when compared with other laser beams but it was still just a variation of laser beam. Or... With unique quality but not entirely unique. RFV failed, sense removed. I think that EP's example sentence, rather than demonstrating the questioned sense, is a good example sentence for a sense we didn't have; so, I've added that sense, with his sentence as well as a new one. —RuakhTALK 00:52, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
