This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections and on talk pages to format quotations from John Bouvier's work A Law Dictionary, Adapted to the Constitution and Laws of the United States of America (1st edition, 1839, 2 volumes). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at Google Books and the Internet Archive:
The template takes the following parameters:
|volume=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the entry is specified the template can determine the volume number quoted from. If quoting from the preface in volume I or A Dictionary of the Norman or Old French Language in volume II, use this parameter to specify the volume number in uppercase Roman numerals, either |volume=I
or |volume=II
.|1=
, |chapter=
, or |entry=
–
|chapter=Preface
.|noformat=1
or |noformat=yes
.|column=
or |columns=
– the column number(s) quoted from, either |column=1
or |column=2
. If quoting from both columns, either omit this parameter or separate the column numbers with an en dash, like this: |columns=1–2
.|2=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from in Arabic or lowercase Roman numerals, as the case may be. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=10–11
or |pages=v–vi
.|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).|3=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– a passage quoted from the work.|nodot=
– by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1
or |nodot=yes
