Usage

This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections of Wiktionary entries, and on talk pages, to provide a citation to the Dictionary of South African English.

Parameters

The template takes the following parameters:

  • |1= or |entry= – the entry cited. If the parameter is not specified, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.
  • |2=, |pos= or |part of speech= – the part of speech of the entry. By default, the template italicizes the value assigned to the parameter and adds a full stop (period) to the end. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, specify |noformat=1 or |noformat=yes: see the example below.
  • |url= – if the default URL is not linking to the correct webpage in the Dictionary, use this parameter to indicate the URL of the webpage to be linked to.
  • |3= or |id= – the number appearing at the end of the URL of the webpage. For example, if the URL is https://dsae.co.za/entry/aardvark/e00015, then specify |id=e00015.
  • |4=, |text=, or |passage= – a passage quoted from the Dictionary.
  • |nodot= – by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1 or |nodot=yes.
