This template may be used in "References" and "Further reading" sections and on talk pages to format quotations from Joseph Wright's work The English Dialect Dictionary (1st edition, 1898–1905, 6 volumes). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive:
The template takes the following parameters:
|volume=
and |part=
– mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the supplement, bibliography, or grammar in volume VI specify |volume=VI
, and give |part=
the value indicated in the first column of the following table:Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Biblio or Bibliography |
Bibliography: The Bibliography of the Principal Books, MSS, etc. Quoted in the Dictionary |
Grammar | The English Dialect Grammar |
Supp or Supplement |
|part=
is omitted, the template defaults to the T–Z part of volume VI.|chapter=
and |chaptername=
– if quoting from the grammar, use |chapter=
to specify the chapter number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, and |chaptername=
the name of the chapter.|1=
or |entry=
– the entry or headword in the work to be quoted from. If this parameter is omitted, the template uses the name of the Wiktionary entry.|2=
, |pos=
, or |part of speech=
– the part of speech of the entry. By default, the template italicizes the value assigned to the parameter and adds a full stop (period) to the end. To turn off the default formatting for the purpose of specifying a different formatting using wikitext markup and templates, specify |noformat=1
or |noformat=yes
: see the example below.|subentry=
– a term that appears as a subentry under an entry.|subpos=
– the part of speech of the subentry.|3=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=10–11
.|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).|column=
or |columns=
– the column number(s) to be quoted from in Arabic numerals, either |column=1
or |column=2
. When referring to a passage that spans both columns, either omit this parameter or use an en dash like this: |columns=1–2
.|4=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|nodot=
– by default, the template adds a full stop (period) at the end of the citation. To suppress this punctuation, use |nodot=1
or |nodot=yes
