This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote Daniel Defoe's work Robinson Crusoe (1st and 3rd editions, 1719; and 7th (abridged) edition, 1777). It can be used to create a link to online versions of the work at Google Books and the Internet Archive:

• 1st edition (1719).
• 3rd edition (1719; archived at the Internet Archive).
• 7th (abridged) edition (1777; archived at the Internet Archive).

The template takes the following parameters:

• |edition= – mandatory in some cases: if quoting from the 3rd edition (1719) or 7th (abridged) edition (1777), specify |edition=3rd or |edition=7th respectively. If this parameter is omitted, the template links to the 1st edition (1719).
• |chapter= – if quoting from the preface, specify |chapter=Preface.
  • In the 1st and 3rd editions, as preface is unpaginated, use |1= or |page= to specify the "page number" assigned by Google Books and the Internet Archive to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://books.google.com/books?id=FsoNAAAAQAAJ&pg=PP13 specify |page=13, and if it is https://archive.org/details/bim_eighteenth-century_the-life-and-strange-sur_defoe-daniel_1719_0/page/n4/mode/1up specify |page=4.
  • In the 7th edition, although the preface appears to be unpaginated, specify its pages as |page=3 and |page=4.
  • The main part of the work is not divided into chapters.
• |1= or |page=, or |pages= – mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
  • Separate the first and last pages of the range with an en dash, like this: |pages=10–11.
  • You must also use |pageref= to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).

This parameter must be specified to have the template link to the online version of the work.

• |2=, |text=, or |passage= – the passage to be quoted.
• |footer= – a comment on the passage quoted.
• |brackets= – use |brackets=on to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, “some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell”) rather than an actual use of it (for example, “we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset”), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.
