This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Henry Fielding's work The Old Debauchees. A Comedy. (1st edition, 1732). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books (archived at the Internet Archive).
The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from the prologue, specify |chapter=Prologue
.|1=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory: the page number(s) quoted from. If quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=10–11
.|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).|act=
– mandatory in some cases: in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the act number quoted from. However, it is unable to do so if page 14 or 27 is specified, in which case this parameter must be used to specify the act number in uppercase Roman numerals, like this: |act=I
.Act I page 1–14 |
Act II page 14–27 |
Act III page 27–40 |
|scene=
– in most cases, if the page number is specified the template can determine the scene number quoted from. However, if it is unable to do so, use this parameter to specify the scene number in lowercase Roman numerals, like this: |scene=i
.
- In Act I, as scene number v is repeated, scenes vi–xi are incorrectly numbered. This template displays the correct scene number in brackets.
- In Act III, if quoting from the last scene specify
|scene=last
.
|2=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use |brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.{{RQ:Fielding Old Debauchees|scene=i|page=2|passage=I rather vvonder vvhat Charms a VVoman of any Spirit can fancy in a Nunnery, in vvatching, vvorking, praying, and ſometimes, I am afraid, vviſhing for other Company than that of an old '''fuſty''' Friar— {{...}}}}
