This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from James Howell's work Londinopolis; an Historicall Discourse or Perlustration of the City of London, the Imperial Chamber, and Chief Emporium of Great Britain (1st edition, 1657). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books (archived at the Internet Archive).
The template takes the following parameters:
|1=
or |chapter=
– the name of the chapter quoted from. If quoting from one of the chapters indicated in the second column of the following table, give the parameter the value indicated in the first column:Parameter value | Result |
---|---|
Advertisement | Some Advertisement to the Reader |
De Ponte Londinensi | De Ponte Londinensi Ejusq; Stupendo Situ & Structurâ |
Of London Bridg | Of London Bridg, and the Stupendous Site, and Structure thereof |
To London | To the Renowned City of London. |
|2=
or |page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by Google Books to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://books.google.com/books?id=WeOcN_kDNloC&pg=PP13
, specify |page=13
. (The other chapters above are also unpaginated, but the template is able to determine the URL.)|2=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=10–11
.|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).Page numbers 125–300 are not used; the text appears to be unaffected.
|3=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use |brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.{{RQ:Howell Londinopolis|chapter=Of the Court of Admiralty|page=377|passage=I regard be had to the Univerſity of humane Reaſon, it is no vvhere ſo narrovvly diſcuſſed and '''eventilated''', and the judgement rectified by clear notions: {{...}}}}
