This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote John Gay's work The Shepherd’s Week (1st edition, 1714). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at Google Books (archived at the Internet Archive).
The template takes the following parameters:
|chapter=
– if quoting from the proeme or prologue, specify |chapter=Proeme
or |chapter=Prologue
. As these chapters are unpaginated, use |1=
or |page=
to specify the "page number" assigned by Google Books to the URL of the webpage to be linked to. For example, if the URL is https://books.google.com/books?id=a69TdT-7Fy4C&pg=PP11
, specify |page=11
.|1=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory: if quoting from the main part of the work, the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=10–11
.|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).|line=
or |lines=
– the line number(s) quoted from. If specifying a range of numbers, separate the first and last numbers of the range with an en dash.|2=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use |brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.{{RQ:John Gay Shepherd's Week|page=21|passage=The vvailings of a maiden I recite, / A maiden fair, that Sparabella hight. / Such ſtrains ne'er '''vvarble''' in the linnet's throat, / Nor the gay goldfinch chaunts ſo ſvveet a note, {{...}}}}
