This template may be used on Wiktionary entry pages to quote J. R. R. Tolkien's work The Return of the King (1978); the 1st edition (London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd., 1955; →OCLC) is not currently available online. The template can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
The template takes the following parameters:
|1=
or |chapter=
– the name of the chapter quoted from.|2=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) to be quoted from. If quoting from the foreword, specify the page number(s) in lowercase Roman numerals. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=110–111
or |pages=x–xi
.|pageref=
to specify the page number that the template should link to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears).|3=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– a passage to be quoted from the work.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use |brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, "some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell") rather than an actual use of it (for example, "we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset"), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.{{RQ:Tolkien Return of the King|chapter=Minas Tirith|page=39|passage=They got there bread, and butter, and cheese and apples; the last of the winter store, wrinkled but sound and sweet; and a leather '''flagon''' of new-drawn ale, and wooden platters and cups.}}
