This template generates IPA for standard Chichewa as spoken in Malawi. It should be given one (or more if there are alternate pronunciations) parameter, a respelled version of the word which includes the following:
- Acute accents (´) for underlying high tones on vowels and syllabic nasals
- The character ŵ as appropriate
- Syllabic m rewritten as m' (as in m'poto)
- All majuscule letters converted to minuscule
- Explosive /b/ and /d/ rewritten as b' and d'
Otherwise, modern spelling in Malawi as described at WT:ANY should be used. The module does not handle bv, pf, or c/ch used for ch/tch.
