My name is Ry (they/them pronouns), and I'm just a linguistics enthusiast getting my feet wet here, mostly by trying to expand entries in Ethiosemitic languages (Tigrinya for right now, with goals to expand to Ge'ez and Amharic in the future).
I'm still pretty new to Wiktionary (my account being around since 2019 is more accidental than evidence of my continued interaction here -- I only seriously started editing in February 2025). and trying to figure out how to do this "the right way", if I've done something wrong I'm always willing to go back and fix my own mistakes, but might need some pointers on how to resolve my errors.
If there's an entry you'd like to see in Amharic, Tigrinya, or Ge'ez, please feel free to let me know and I can build it out, though right now my primary focus is on improving the existing entries in these languages. If there's another Ethiopian or Eritrean language you'd like assistance with, I can also give it a shot though my experience will be substantially less, and can't promise I can vet the entries to the same level I can with my "big 3".
Current TO-DOs:
- Review existing Tigrinya & Amharic entries to evaluate if I can verify the existing senses or add rfv-sense templates to request others to review, as well as preliminary CFI review
- Expand existing Ethio-Semitic resources by leveraging Leslau's Comparative Dictionary of Ge'ez to act as a sort of "bootstrap" for Ethiopic historical information
- Expand Tigrinya & Amharic lemmata through existing dictionaries, evaluating if words meet CFI as I go.
- Build modules for Tigrinya & Amharic verbs to auto-populate conjugation information where possible.
