This page contains my rough draft of Wiktionary guidelines (someday a policy?) that would help an editor place a link from wiktionary to wikipedia.

Text

It is useful for many articles on Wiktionary to have a link to the related article on Wikipedia. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways.

The simplest way to is to place the template {{wikipedia}} at the top of the article, above any headings. This will cause the tempate to appear to the right of the Table of Contents. If the name of the relevant article on Wikipedia is different than its name on Wiktionary, you can use a different template that takes an parameter: {{wikipediapar|Article name on wikipedia}}.

However, a short article may have no table of contents. In that case, an editor may choose to use the {{pedialite}} template in the "External links" section, which may improve the layout.

A harder case is what to do if there are multiple definitions to the word, and thus, mutiple links to Wikipedia are appropriate. We are not sure what do to in this case.

You can also create a link to wikipedia using a link like this: ]

Problematic article examples

  • Carl's Jr. - short article, poor template positioning
  • cummingtonite - short article, poor template positioning (layout prob)
  • bowling - long article, 2 wikipedia templates
  • DOS - long article, 3 letter acronym, 5 links to wikipedia
