Tasks

The bot's task is creation of stub entries for various languages. Stub entries contain at least the following information:

  • part of speech section using a language-specific headword template
  • at least one translation in the definition line, taken from translation tables, foreign-language wiktionaries, out-of-copyright works, or machine-translated
  • inflection (if the created word can inflect), either fully listing all forms or using the appropriate language-specific inflection template

Additional sections which are often generated:

  • pronunciations with audio files or IPA transcriptions
  • references with links to online dictionaries
  • morphological etymologies (such as thoughtfulness = thoughtful + -ness)
  • morphologically predictable related and derived terms

Entries

All such stub entries are tagged with template {{stub entry}}.

Languages

Languages currently being implemented:

  • Ukrainian

Planned languages:

  • Russian
  • Belarusian
  • Serbo-Croatian
  • Slovene

Requests

For each processed language a subpage such as User:StubCreationBot/Ukrainian/feedme is used to request creation of specific entries. On that subpage editors can also subscribe themselves (and have others subscribed) by listing their username, which will cause bot to monitor their recent additions to English translation tables, and create stubs for missing entries.

Future plans

  • All checked stub entries which have {{stub entry}} removed and the string uk stub OK (with uk being a language code, in this case standing for Ukrainian) as one of the subsequent edit summaries have missing inflected forms generated as well.
