Welcome!
Hello, and welcome to Wiktionary. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk (discussion) and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~, which automatically produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the beer parlour or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome!
Hi again John,
Please try to keep conversations on talk pages...the questions you are asking me about are of very common general interest. Every newbie should know the answers to these questions. If they happen to see them show up on Special:Recentchanges then they will get the answer to their questions without even having to ask. Also, from the spameater messages, I'm never certain that you did get my e-mail responses. Unless you have some reason not to, I'd prefer if you'd copy the general contents of those couple e-mail messages here. Thanks!

P.S. I thought your user name was somehow related to secure socket layer. :-) --Connel MacKenzie 19:57, 29 July 2005 (UTC)
Would it be a good idea for someone in charge to change the link from the Main Page to the abbreviation list to be to the new automated list instead of the old (and rapidly decreasing) manual list? -- Stranger, SSL69 15:49, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
Do you mean recapitulation etc ? SemperBlotto 18:50, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
You left a message for me a while back about capitalisation of chemical names. Do you know chemistry? I have entered an acronym for DEET (which I think is important because I think it's Catnip). I respectfully request that you check this for formatting. Cheers, --Stranger, SSL69 14:46, 11 August 2005 (UTC)

Hi,
You asked me to have a look at DEET. I've made a few changes, mainly the following:
Otherwise it looked just fine to me. Linking to Wikipedia, where an article exists there too, is always a good idea.

Thanks! But I found your reply confusing - in looking at the history of DEET, I found out why: Semper had already performed his magic on it. I had simply made an initialism; Semper expanded it. So, I can't take credit for his, I'm sure, excellent entry. I'll copy our conversations on his talk page so he'll have the benefit of your correction wisdom. Cheers, -- Stranger, SSL69 14:27, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
Yes, you are quite right. I often fail to get that right. You are always welcome to make such corrections to any article when you see it. Cheers. SemperBlotto 07:03, 24 August 2005 (UTC) By the way, I have moved Virtual Private Network to virtual pivate network and given it a link to Wikipedia.
AustNet is an IRC network in Australia, yes. I'm not in australia, and I wouldn't know of any blogs there either, sorry. :) --Phroziac 03:14, 25 August 2005 (UTC)
moved to Newfoundland
Thanks for pointing this out. I've replied on my user page. — Paul G 08:57, 30 August 2005 (UTC)
Way way back in my talk page archives, one of the earlier things I was taught was to revert vandalism the easy way. That is, do "not to try and reconstruct. Just go to the history page, bring up the version before the vandalism, edit that (but do nothing) then submit that version. It becomes the current version again, overwriting the vandalism! simple eh!" Since having the sysop flag, it is just a rollback button that does mostly the same thing, only with a nicer comment. Normall the edit comment should just be "rv" for revert.
For images, Image:Blank.png should always be around. I recommend keeping a local, personal copy. --Connel MacKenzie 00:30, 2 September 2005 (UTC)
Hey Stranger, could you comment on this outreach project? +sj + 23:35, 7 September 2005 (UTC)
