Hi Guaka,
Thanks for your contributions. It's nice to you are adding some new words. There are a few issues with them though.
The (Dutch) translations you put in are for the noun and verb meanings of those words, on one line. We try to separate them. In Dutch infinitives always end in -en. (Plurals do too, but there isn't much confusion).
I tried to improve a few of them. I would appreciate it if you would check what I changed to your entries. It would save me some work, if you would work according to the standards we have been trying to establish over the last year. Polyglot 22:00, 9 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Hi. Shall I do something like ==Noun== ===Translations=== ==Verb== ===Translations=== for words that are both noun and verb? Where can I find more info about these "standards"? Guaka 19:19, 11 Feb 2004 (UTC)
- Hi Guaka,
- I don't know if you found an answer to your question. The current standard is to use three equals signs for parts of speech (eg, ===Noun===) and four for headings coming under that part of speech (eg, ====Translations====). Two equals signs are used for languages (eg, ==English==). Essentially, follow the standard that you see being used in most other articles. If you have any specific questions, contact a sysop such as Polyglot or me.
- By the way, in the non-English entries (such as the Turkish yardim - ), don't give translations - just put in a link to the Engilsh word. This will help avoid translations becoming inconsistent and unmanageable. If there is no equivalent, then give a definition for the word instead. Thanks - keep up the good work. -- Paul G 16:22, 25 Mar 2004 (UTC)
Do you still need you page User:Guaka/Main Page Test. It appears well out of date, but keeps appearing on link reports. I would like to delete it but would prefer to have your permission. Please let me know. Thanks. Eclecticology 02:40, 26 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- No. Go ahead :) Guaka 19:23, 27 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Talk:Give-away shop
I've never heard of this expression, or this idea. Sounds like a good idea, but does it exist, does it deserve a Wiktionary entry? Or is it just wishful thinking, promoting an idea by creating a word ? Especially dubious therefore of the translations. Are these just literal translations,or does the word really exist in these languages ? Be interested to hear where this word is in real usage. In Australia we do have the Op Shop which might be considered similar. Have to go make an entry for it if it doesn't already exist.--Richardb 02:05, 21 Nov 2004 (UTC)
- Check the Wikipedia article! :) Or Google... Maybe you can add info about the Op Shop to the Wikipedia article? I added the expression here because I wanted to translate the wp article into other languages... Later I found some translations with some creative Google searching, and I found out there already was an article on the German Wikipedia, which didn't have interwikilinks :)
- Update, no in an Op Shop they sell the goods. Obviously that's contrary to the principles of the give-away shops. Guaka 23:57, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hi Guaka,
I've read you have wrote the script to translate the wikimedia to stardict format?
Can you help me with it. I'm stuck at the moment.
I want to use the nl-version within stardict. Hopefully you can help me.
Let me now at: ruud at nitthoes dot com.
Tnx!
- Eh, that's wrong. I wrote a script that converts Wikimedia SQL dumps into the DICT format. And unfortunately Stardict doesn't directly support DICT... Well, I contacted the Stardict author, and he didn't feel like supporting the DICT server. And I don't want to store the Wiktionaries and Wikipedias twice on my harddrive... so I don't care much for converting to Stardict. I'm happy with KDict... Guaka 01:46, 8 Dec 2004 (UTC)
Hey Guaka, I don't want to be rude, but we're trying to get rid of these templates. See the relevant discussion on Wiktionary:Requests for Cleanup. --Wytukaze 23:27, 8 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
- Hi! I didn't really know. Recently I've been working a lot on fr.wikt, where they really like templates. Does this also count for the language templates? I've added some Dogon and Bambara and used templates for that.
P.S. I hope Ultimate Wiktionary will stick to its schedule :) Guaka 17:19, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- No, not explicitly. We have no real objection to the templates, but the problem with templates (on en:) with a hyphen either side is that they insert a header into the document. Useful, you might think, but if you click the link to the side of the header, you are directed to the template instead of the section of the article. Instead, we just use bare text headers, which happens to reduce server load too, which is always nice. So, so long as your language templates don't insert a header, use them, by all means.
- I hope it appeases the majority of people, too. --Wytukaze 23:41, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
This was a woefully out of date page in your user space, and I have deleted it. If you still need it please advise me, and I will be glad to undelete it. Eclecticology 21:48, 24 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
