macaroni -> macuquino but s.b. macuquina ?

Checking scans over at Wikisource I come across a lot of old Spanish terms. Looking for macuquino, search found a mention in macaroni, added by you. Searching further, I happened upon macuquina, which got me to macuquina. My condensed OED doesn't have the etymology you mentioned. After searching around the web, I still can't tell if macuquino/macuquina are the same thing or different things. If you still have your OED handy, can you verify that it mentions "macuquina", not "macuquino"? Shenme (talk) 03:34, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

@Shenme The relevant bit is
which is what I wrote. If someone else later changed that to macuquina for some reason, I couldn't speak to that. — LlywelynII 04:35, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I think I will take up the question with the ES wiktionary and wikipedia people. I did see at least one place that had the entry as "macuquino -na". Maybe the ES people just need redirects? Thank you again. Shenme (talk) 05:03, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Shenme Sure, thank you for your diligence pinning this down. I cribbed the OED but they certainly aren't dedicated experts on early modern colonial Spanish slang. Their source that they're cribbing could've easily muffed this and, if so, it's great that we would be checking and fixing any problems. — LlywelynII 05:49, 17 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
