Belated welcome and a note on policies

Hello Zacwill, I see that you have been doing good work here on English Wiktionary for quite a while so I thought it would be worthwhile to leave a note on your talk page. Specifically, welcome! We're glad to have you here to have your help. I see that you are fairly active on English Wikipedia and other projects, so I'll spare you some of the basic introductory details but will list some of the more noteworthy pages:

  • Wiktionary:Discussion rooms: This include places for asking questions, looking for other's insight, discussing policy, and making requests.
  • Wiktionary:Glossary & Appendix:Glossary: Definitions of common jargon used by editors and the linguistics community in general.
  • Wiktionary:Babel: Notes on the use of templates to describe one's knowledge of language, particularly notable as Wiktionary aims to document language.

In addition to the welcome I would like to add a note about English Wiktionary's policy on the verification and removal of definitions. I bring this up because of your removal of the sense "species; kind" from thede. Terms and senses on English Wiktionary are subject to the criteria for inclusion (CFI), similar to English Wikipedia's notability guideline. When they seem to fail the meet the criteria for inclusion, usually by lacking records of their usage as you mentioned is the case for thede, standard practice is to make a post about the term or sense at Wiktionary:Requests for verification. With that, I would suggest making such a post on the sense you removed or, if you aren't interested in doing so, I would be willing to make the post.

Anyways, thank you for contributions to English Wiktionary, I hope you enjoy your stay and to have your help for a good while longer. Best. —The Editor's Apprentice (talk) 08:08, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello @The Editor's Apprentice, and thanks for the friendly welcome. I've restored the "species" sense to thede for the time being and created a request for verification, in line with Wiktionary's policies. Zacwill (talk) 08:25, 6 January 2021 (UTC)Reply
