German
Etymology
From Middle High German wert, from Old High German werd, from Proto-Germanic *werþaz. The -t is generalised from the uninflected form, likely reinforced by the desire to distinguish from forms of werden (compare werten). The regular -d- remains in Würde, würdig. Compare Dutch waard, English worth, Swedish värd.
