The aim of this page is to explain the norms used in North Moluccan Malay entries. It is intended to complement WT:CFI and WT:ELE (see also these two pages).
North Moluccan Malay is written in Latin script, following the Indonesian orthography with almost no changes, except that ⟨f⟩ and ⟨v⟩ are sometimes interchangeable for some speakers. To determine if the spelling ⟨f⟩ or ⟨v⟩ is used, first check if the word is from Malay or another regional language, then ⟨f⟩ is used (e.g. falo-falo)—or is from an European language and originally spelled with ⟨v⟩, then ⟨v⟩ is most likely used (e.g. tivi), except that if the word has undergone many phonological changes (e.g. falinggir) then it's safe to use ⟨f⟩.
North Moluccan Malay is lemmatized without any diacritic. It's important, however to consider the usage of a diacritic (especially the acute accent ⟨á⟩) in a headword if the word has unpredictable pronunciation (see below for more).
Generally, stress for North Moluccan Malay falls before the last syllable (or penultimate). Some words though, have their stress falls at the last syllable (or ultimate). Stress is phonemic, even if a word doesn't have any minimal pair.
Only irregular stress is marked, while penultimate stress is mostly left unmarked. For example:
