Vanilla

  2. Abstain Leftmostcat 06:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC) Will change to support if candidate indicates it will be used primarily for milkshakes and the like, or with butterscotch topping

Coffee

  1. Support Leftmostcat 06:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC) This candidate doesn't deserve the harsh treatment it's receiving! I believe it would make an excellent Tasty Flavor of Ice Cream.

Strawberry

  1. Oppose Connel MacKenzie 01:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
  2. Oppose Abstain: I absolutely love strawberries, but I absolutlely detest artificial strawberry flavor. In Asia, where I have been for the past year and a half and lived for the past four years, there are very few quality ice cream brands. Too many flavors of strawberry, if they aren't completely fake, mix the artificial flavor with aged strawberries that have been super-sweetened. DAVilla 11:09, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Rocky road

  1. Oppose Connel MacKenzie 01:25, 6 July 2007 (UTC) Deserts and nuts should never be combined.

It is an odd name, isn't it? For the longest time, I thought it was Colonel MacKenzie. ;-) Helluva lot more interesting than David though. Maybe I should change my name to Rocky. ;-) Or maybe just a symbol, like a full circle. :-P Not sure how to pronounce it though. Maybe "Saro". :-7 DAVilla 00:40, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
  4. Oppose Leftmostcat 06:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC) Another member of the Chocolatist camp.
  5. Oppose ArielGlenn 06:12, 12 July 2007 (UTC) What on earth are those marashmellows doing in there? Let alone the nuts...

  7. Abstain H. (talk) 09:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC) I have no idea what this is. Once again, the vote is not designed for a multilingual dictionary.
Incorrect. I have no knowledge of ice cream styles in Italy, China, Peru or Algeria, so I didn't enter any such choices; as you have demonstrated below, options can be added easily. I was hopeful that we'd get a whole bunch of really obscure choices, but so far that hasn't happened. It is w:Rocky road ice cream, but is not as popular as the biased WP article indicates. --Connel MacKenzie 22:50, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
  8. Oppose Dvortygirl 05:33, 13 July 2007 (UTC) Yuck. Who came up with putting walnuts and marshmallows in ice cream, anyway? --Dvortygirl 05:33, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
  9. Oppose EncycloPetey 05:56, 13 July 2007 (UTC) Marshmallows are an abomination.
  10. Support Medellia 06:01, 13 July 2007 (UTC) As I recall, I come from the birthplace of the flavor. Someone has to, for lack of a better term, represent.

Natural strawberry

  1. Support DAVilla 09:49, 6 July 2007 (UTC) I really have having to make "strawberry" into a retronym though. DAVilla 22:12, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

  4. Strong Support Leftmostcat 06:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC) Very strong candidate. Shows many of the qualities I seek in a Tasty Flavor of Ice Cream and has a long history of being delicious.
  5. Oppose ArielGlenn 06:10, 12 July 2007 (UTC) There is not nearly enough chocolate in this flavor.
The distinct lack of overbearing chocolate is why this flavour does not meet the standard of ew, and is therefore a candidate for best flavour ever. :p Neskaya 06:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
  1. Abstain H. (talk) 09:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC) I have no idea what this is.

Pistachios

  1. Support H. (talk) 09:25, 12 July 2007 (UTC) Has been my favorita ever since I was a kid.
  2. Oppose Connel MacKenzie 19:04, 12 July 2007 (UTC) Nuts are evil in ice cream.
  3. Support DAVilla 20:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC) Wonderful flavor! Should drop the s in the title though. DAVilla 20:38, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Hazelnut

  1. Support EncycloPetey 05:56, 13 July 2007 (UTC) This is my favorite flavor; when I visited Hungary you could get it for just 8 or 9 cents for each delicious scoop (12 cents at the expensive shops).
  2. Support DAVilla 20:22, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
  3. Oppose Connel MacKenzie 00:08, 22 July 2007 (UTC) No nuts in any desert context. (And everyone ignores the vote end date, anyhow.  :-)

Lemon

  1. Support — Beobach972 16:17, 13 July 2007 (UTC) (Mmm... — Beobach972 16:17, 13 July 2007 (UTC))
  2. Abstain Okay, but too often aritificial, as if it were really that difficult to get the flavor of lemon! Also not so good in large quantities, which is the only way I like to eat ice cream! DAVilla 20:25, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Raspberry

  1. Support — Beobach972 16:17, 13 July 2007 (UTC) (Called Himbeere, this is a German flavour. I admit that putting raspberries in ice-cream is a little bit odd, but it's much better than putting them in beer... — Beobach972 16:17, 13 July 2007 (UTC))
  2. Support Delicious! DAVilla 20:25, 13 July 2007 (UTC) Abstain On the other hand, all those little seeds are a little annoying. DAVilla 22:05, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Falude

  1. Support — Beobach972 16:17, 13 July 2007 (UTC) (Ah, multi-cultural ice-cream! Connel MacKenzie, I think this qualifies as obscure and peculiar :-)
For an incomplete explanation of it, see w:Faloodeh (that explains it as a different style, but it is also possible to make falude-flavoured ice-cream). — Beobach972 16:17, 13 July 2007 (UTC))
  2. Abstain Haven't tried it. From the ingredients, it sounds really good though. DAVilla 22:15, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

Decision

This vote is now closed. DAVilla 00:03, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Wiktionary's unofficial favorite flavor of ice cream is Natural strawberry with 5 in favor, 1 opposed, and 6 abstaining. The runners up were Chocolate chip and Hazelnut, each with 2 in favor, none opposed, and 10 abstaining. DAVilla 00:10, 15 July 2007 (UTC)
Erm, no. Wiktionary's "official" ice cream doesn't exist; the result of the vote is "no consensus." --Connel MacKenzie 16:02, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
In this case, yes, I think no consensus is the result. If this were an issue for which we absolutely had to pick a course of action, I think Natural Strawberry would be the chosen option, because it had the most support there was very little explicit opposition to it. — Beobach972 05:22, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Could either of you please explain that numerically? The majority criterion for this vote was not established, so I assumed that the vote tally had to be greater than zero, which it was. But that's probably the most minimal consensus criterion there is. I wouldn't necessarily disagree that there isn't concensus, I just don't want to have to depend on subjective opinions on real votes. DAVilla 19:53, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
P.S. If this had been an official vote, the period would have automatically been extended to August 13th (one month past the last time an option was added) right? --16:05, 19 July 2007 (UTC)
Ah... that's probably true... which could make voting quite confusing, and never-ending, if we don't somehow cap it. — Beobach972 05:22, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but it would be best, in my opinion, to have all options existing before the vote starts, or perhaps in an early phase where both could occur, but not within the final 30 or however many days of the vote. DAVilla 19:53, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
So, it should have been entered as a tentative vote, then given a month or two to accumulate other options? I think a lot can be said for using this style as an option-gathering phase. --Connel MacKenzie 20:17, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
I didn't see that cookie dough had been added. Mmmm, cookie dough. bd2412 T 22:12, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
  • I think is it worth noting how skewed the "result" was; can we conclude that all en.wiktionary votes are so under-representative that none should be considered "binding" or permanent? None are permanent; they are simply fixed in place until a overriding vote comes along, that represents the (ever-changing) community opinion du jour. --Connel MacKenzie 20:17, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
