User:Hamaryns for admin

  • Nomination: I hereby nominate User:Hamaryns as a local English Wiktionary Administrator. Hamaryns, also known as H. and earlier henne, has been an active contributor since October of last year, working not only on translations into his native Dutch and other languages, but also on templates that make that work more uniform. He recently put together a successful vote on example sentences, which is an issue that I personally have tried but never been able to get any resolution on. DAVilla 00:14, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
  • Vote ends: 30 August 2007 23:59 UTC
  • Vote starts: 16 15 August 2007
  • Acceptance: of course.
    • Languages: nl, de-4, en-3, fr-3, ru-2, is-1 and quite some others which I won’t bother to mention.
    • Timezone: CET (=UTC+1), CEST (=UTC+2) in summer.

Hmmm... strictly speaking, your vote seems a little premature. DAVilla 11:46, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
As does mine. I'm changing the start date. DAVilla 11:48, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
There has never been a problem with votes before acceptance; of course passage requires acceptance ... Robert Ullmann 23:04, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
The problem was that the vote was supposed to start on the 16th, one day ahead. I'm not so sure it's so important to have a "deadline" start time for nominations. DAVilla 06:43, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

  4. Support Connel MacKenzie 22:41, 15 August 2007 (UTC) Although he originally supported the Proto forms, he learned somewhere along the way (as I did) that not all policies here are personally agreeable. He seems to respect the community's wishes, despite his own difference of opinion on that particular topic. Clearly, en.wiktionary.org will benefit from his having the sysop flag.

Can only admins vote in other admins? DAVilla 11:49, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't think so, no; at least, I certainly voted in these votes before I became an admin, and no one commented. Besides, admins are supposed to enforce community policy, so the question is whether the community supports a person, not whether the other admins do. —RuakhTALK 16:49, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Anyone but sockpuppets of blocked users can nominate & vote. Bureaucrats have the option of ignoring votes they feel may be invalid, but AFAIK, none have done so yet. There is no minimum edit count required, as other language Wiktionaries are sometimes affected by votes here, the door is kept open to allow contributors elsewhere to have a voice here. --Connel MacKenzie 22:47, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
Anyone can vote, not just admins, and they should! And the nominee can certainly vote. In "ordinary" elections, politicians always vote for themselves: they are as entitled—of course—to vote as anyone else! ;-) Robert Ullmann 23:04, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
They are also, of course, entitled to vote for anyone else ;-) Thryduulf 09:34, 16 August 2007 (UTC)
