Since clearly different users have different preferences in this regard, I propose making it a customisable feature for each individual user. Users would be able to choose between the columnised layout (the default, presumably) and the old single-column layout. If this is implemented, I'll drop my opposition. —Rua (mew) 10:59, 4 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
- @Rua you can edit your .js user page and add
$('.derivedterms').addClass('tcol-onedi');
to turn off {{acol}}
, {{topx}}
(they use CSS ":not(tcol-onedi)". I can try to add same thing to other topN templates if there are no objections from @DTLHS, Erutuon, Victar. —Игорь Тълкачь (talk) 16:24, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
- This is too complicated for most users. It should show a tree by default, like it does for most pages, and allow column display to be enabled with a gadget. Users are accustomed to a tree view, since that is the default, so columns should be opt-in. —Rua (mew) 16:36, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
{{acol}}
leaves the tree untouched, the difference is absence/presence of div contaniner, you can compare HTML code by yourself. Your original point was "columnised layout (the default, presumably)", now you say "It should show a tree by default". Anyway, there was poll and it's failed, but you behave as if it's passed. —Игорь Тълкачь (talk) 16:55, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
- The poll failed, which means nothing changed and the tree view is still the default. I was never opposed to the column templates as such. As you know, I only oppose their use in descendants trees, precisely because these are trees and columns make it much harder to understand. Putting everything in columns does a disservice to our users, who are used to trees, which is why it should stay as a tree and be displayed by columns only if a user opts into it. —Rua (mew) 17:00, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
- Actually this poll is not about what is default (of course, no column is default for most entires due to lack of descendants), it's about disabling/enabling general right to use topN in descendants. Since then, we have to conform to the consensus to reduce possible conflicts (e.g. from mass removing). But fact is that number of PS entries with top3 is reduced to 870 (2020/07/14) from 933 (2019/12/27~) from 1000+ (undated). You really need to stop non-consensual and unjustified removing of topN. —Игорь Тълкачь (talk) 16:08, 14 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
