Etymology
From Arabic زَيْتُون (zaytūn, “olive”), derived from Quanzhou's former Chinese nickname 刺桐城 (Cìtóngchéng, “Tung Tree City”), after the trees which had been extensively planted there in the 10th century by Liu Congxiao.
