Term coined by A. Kronvalds in the 1860s-1870s, from aiz- +‎ spriest (past stem: spried-) (to judge) +‎ -iens. This term never became really popular and was soon replaced by K. Valdemārs' and F. Brīvzemnieks' aizspriedums.
