Inherited from Ottoman Turkish باجاناق (bacanaḳ) or باجیناق (bacınaḳ)[1] or باجناح (bacanaḥ),[2] from Proto-Turkic *bāčanak, possibly from *bāča (“elder sister, husbands of sisters”), whence also bacı (“sister”),[3] however this etymology has some contension due to uncertain suffix structure.[4][5]
