Derived from Chthamaloidea, from Chthamalidae which in turn came from Chthamalinae which was proposed by Charles Darwin in 1854, which appears to be named after the genus Chthamalus named by Camillo Ranzani from Bologna in Memoire di Storia Naturale 1820..
