From Old Swedish darra, from Old Norse dirre (“to shake”), from a Proto-Germanic derivative of Proto-Indo-European *dʰerh₃- (“to spring, leap”), see also Ancient Greek θρῴσκω (thrṓiskō).[1] A probable Germanic cognate is Dutch dartel (“playful, frisky”).
