Uncertain. Takacs (1999) compares it to Proto-Kuliak *dọb (rhinoceros).[1] Possibly related to db (horn, tusk); compare the possible relation between ḫꜣb (hippopotamus) and ḫꜣb (to be bent) (in reference to the animal’s tusks).
