The similarity to Arabic إِسْكِدُنْيَا (ʔiskidunyā, “medlar”) and Turkish dünya (“world”) and rare Serbo-Croatian dȕnja (“world”), notwithstanding names like German Zwergmispel (“cotoneaster”, literally “dwarf-medlar”), is a coincidence.
