From Old Persian 𐎮𐎡𐎭𐎠 (didā-, “wall, fortress”) + *-wāra.[1] The first part is from Proto-Iranian *dáyjah, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰéyǵʰ-o-s (“to form, knead”),[2] and the second part is from Proto-Iranian *wāra-.
