Tagalog
Etymology
From Philippine Spanish guierra, variant of Spanish guerra, from Early Medieval Latin werra, from Frankish *werru (“confusion; quarrel”). The insertion of ⟨-i-⟩ / ⟨-iy-⟩ (/j/) after /ɡ/, in Philippine Spanish is possibly due to palatalization of /ɡ/ before front vowel /e/ in some Spanish dialects. Compare Chilean Spanish guierra, Aragonese guierra, and Istriot guiera.
