Possibly a substrate word, akin to Albanian gurmaz, or derived from the Albanian or from Vulgar Latin gruma (a variant of Latin grumus attested as meaning a nipple or teat but possibly also a small hill) + the Romanian suffix -ză. Compare also Italian gruma and Aromanian gurmadz.
