From New Latin ischaemia, from Ancient Greek ἴσχαιμος (ískhaimos, stoppage of blood flow), from ῐ̓́σχω (ískhō, to hold back, restrain; to stay, stop) + αἷμᾰ (haîma, blood).[1]
