Etymology

From jelen (deer) +‎ -ka. Old common name, which used to be used for mushrooms of the genera ElaphomycesWP WSp Commons and PhallusWP WSp Commons. Since 1901 the name is used solely for the genus Elaphomyces, following the suggestion of Czech botanist Jan Bezděk.[1] The name probably reflects the fact that these mushrooms are liked by deer.
