Muong
Etymology
From Proto-Vietic, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *kʔik ~ *kʔiək ~ *kʔaik (“armpit”). Cognate with Tho kɛːk⁷ (uninfixed), Vietnamese nách (through a nasal infixed form), Khmer ក្លៀក (kliək) (through a lateral infixed form), Khmu klʔɛk (through a lateral infixed form), Mal kɛʔ (uninfixed).
Unlike Vietnamsee, which only maintains the infixed form nách, Mường Bi seems to keep both the uninfixed kéch and the infixed néch as synonyms.
Pronunciation
Noun
kéch
- (Mường Bi, anatomy) armpit
- Synonym: néch
