Grimm, related to Tyrolean kill (intimate), Swedish kela, Danish kjäle (to cuddle); Danish kelen, kälen, kjälen (tender, soft; spoiled, pampered); compare also Swabian käl (tasteless, crass), Augsburg dialect kalläß (picky (regarding food)).[1] Hellquist gives further possible cognates to Swedish kela: Scanian kelen, Norwegian kjœla (softness)[2] (This etymology is missing or incomplete.
